USCG meeting recap

Last Wednesday's (Dec. 7th) meeting with our area Coast Guard officers again recapped the Coast Guard mission and gave assurances that we can look forward to minimum if any interference with Ferry operations in the North Channel. Cutters will only move into the North Channel if asked or to alleviate threatening flooding conditions up-river. Last year’s North Channel ice breaking efforts were provided to aid ferry operations.

Of special interest was the contact information for use after property damage caused by ice breaking operations.

For damage claims against the US government the process is detailed in 33 Code of Federal Regulations, Part 25.  The link below has the details from the USCG claims and litigation office. http://www.uscg.mil/d13/ldiv/branch_claims_and_litigation.asp

The form to use for submitting the claim is:

A recent initiative by St. Clair County's Emergency Management.

The St. Clair County Office of Homeland Security/ Emergency Management has instituted an innovated solution for improving communications between government agencies, volunteer organizations, businesses and the citizens of St. Clair County.
"Select Alert" is an innovated solution for improving communications between government agencies, volunteer organizations, businesses and the citizens of St. Clair County.
Select Alert is a notification system that sends coordinated information to multiple devices simultaneously.
Currently, the system can deliver information to telephones, cell phones, e-mails, pagers, fax machines and TTY for the hearing impaired. You choose what and how the information is delivered. Once a citizen signs up for this service, it is his responsibility to keep his information current and up to date.
To sign up for Select Alert requires a valid e-mail address. However, if you do not have a computer, you can go to any Library Branch where computers are available.
If you have any questions, contact Marianne Hill at the office of Emergency Management at (810) 989-6965.
