Information
of Interest!
As
previously reported, a Ferry
Rate Hike Proposal has been submitted to the MPSC.
At the
November 28th Rate Hike request meeting, a HISCFA
letter (attached) was
read into the record and a signed hard copy was provided for the
docket. Two representatives from the Attorney General's office, three reresentatives from the MPSC, and an
attorney representing David Bryson were also in attendance. The rate
request decision has been (Read
it Here) postponed until no later than April 1, 2012.
During an informal 45 minutes discussion after the formal
hearing we engaged the the same people
in informal and candid discussion. Since the AG people are actually the
ones who review the files/records and make recommendations to the PSC
itself, we engaged them closely on alternative strategies for rate
relief, subsidies, etc. Subsidies, as such, are not in play with the
PSC.

Have you
ever
wondered about traffic on the St. Clair River during thr early years of
the 19th century.
Well, Welcome Aboard! Take a trip from Detroit to the hotels in the St. Clair Flats and Harsens Island on steamers of the White Star Line Circa 1900 to 1936. Read more about the interesting stops along the river and see how they have changed. Follow the link to the historical society's website on the left panel and look for the brochure. and check on a Vintage USCG rescue craft.
A 1930s Coast Guard rescue craft once used at the Chicago Coast
Guard station at Navy Pier in Chicago, Ill., has been restored and
launched in Michigan.
After the vessel was retired from duty, it was sold and eventually
found its way to Nantucket, Mass., where it was used as an outdoor
exhibit for 10 years.
Maritime enthusiast Jeff Shook acquired the boat in order to restore it
and help publicize the efforts of the Michigan Lighthouse Conservancy
in preserving an historic 1909 U. S. Life Saving Service 36-foot Motor
Life Boat, which is the last surviving craft of its type where the crew
was awarded Gold Medal.
